SOUND TYPE ２

SOUND TYPE ２ is the second album by SOUNDTYPE, a piano trio featuring Yusuke Kono on piano, Yuta Omino on bass, and Jun Otsu on drums. The album presents the trio’s music through the interplay of piano, bass, and drums, highlighting the individual voices of its three members and their collective approach to improvisation.

Formed in 2023, SOUNDTYPE grew out of online sessions between three musicians with distinctly different musical backgrounds. For Kono, the collaboration offered an opportunity to move beyond the conventions of jazz, bringing together individual musical perspectives to discover something unexpected.

Following their self-titled debut in 2024, the trio returned with a thirteen-track album that balances the intimacy of piano, bass, and drums with a broader musical palette. The record features rapper KENTA! on “Intermission,” while saxophonist Shoubun and guitarist Zack Auslander join the trio on “Above & Beyond.”

The album closes with “Escaping Mirage,” presented in a solo piano version by Kono.

Moving between collective improvisation, memorable melodies, and collaborations beyond the traditional trio setting, Soundtype 2 reflects the group’s continuing exploration of music without stylistic boundaries.
